EPISTLE TO A CHICAGOAN

in flight over Lake Erie

at first it was
you must be special -
I've come a long way
and I need you
to fit my projection

as you know
I had to learn once before
to separate
the vision of the artist
the frailty of the man

so a few steps later
it's not -
you're my hero
whom I create wonderful
in my fantasy

but simply -
it's kind of nice to hang around genius
and now
I feel I've caught a glimpse of you
and I learnt something about loving this week
and
with all my heart

I love you

and thanks
